Jaakko Niemelä

From a multisensory world

In looking at works by Jaakko Niemelä, who originally trained as a graphic artist, the increasingly diverse nature of sculpture in contemporary art becomes axiomatic They can be scale models, light, spaces, or all of these at once. In everyday terms, Niemelä perhaps offers viewers situations rather than specifically pictures, since they can step inside his works or hang around in their company. A central feature of his art is its breadth, it is like spending time with life itself.
