Markus Konttinen

Markus Konttinen paints the surface of contact between the visible and the invisible. Traces of that contact are recorded on the canvas: brushstrokes, runs and reminders of paint, nodes of colour. The painting is not isolated from the world, but is a condensation of what it feels like to be in the world, as an experiencing subject. Not everything can be explained, the painting cannot be cropped to make it a picture on which we can focus our gaze and which we can control. It is like the surface of water that something has passed through, or a photograph in which something transitory and unidentified has been captured.
