Matti Kalkamo

In Matti Kalkamo’s sculptures black humour and concern for the world of humanity meet. Kalkamo uses his works to probe the tender spot for joys and sorrows that has always been found by the great comedians. His figures are frequently grotesque, but on closer inspection extremely fragile and human. Our time is like the waiting room envisaged by Kalkamo – inhabited by giants, Mexican freestyle wrestlers and the glum congregation of our own thoughts. When faced with all this, surprise and laughter reach out to shake hands.
